Dr. Jones graduated Cum Laude from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 2003, with a Distinction in Research. During his time there he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He joined the Illinois Eye Surgeons in 2007 after serving as Chief Resident for the Saint Louis University Eye Institute for one year. He now serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Illinois Eye Surgeons. Dr. Jones lives in Belleville and is a dedicated father to three boys Brendan, Patrick, and Luke.
Dr. Jones is a high volume cataract surgeon specializing in difficult or advanced cases. Practicing as a true comprehensive surgeon, however, he does more than just remove cataracts. Dr. Jones performs more eyelid lifting and tightening procedures than any other surgeon in the Metro East. He also performs glaucoma laser and shunting surgeries, being the first to implant the next generation Mini Shunt in the Metro East in 2008. Dr. Jones also performs bladeless LASIK and Visian ICL implantation for refractive correction, implanting more Visian ICL than any doctor in the Metro East.
Dr. Jones’s true specialty is Premium Lens Implantation at the time of cataract surgery. He is one of the leading Premium Lens implanters in the country. Due to his expertise with this technology he is a national consultant for these lenses and has spoken around the country on their benefits. He was the first to implant the Toric Lens Implant and the Restor Lens Implant in the Metro East. He is also involved in FDA clinical trials for the next generation of Premium IOLs.
Dr. Jones performs surgery in Edwardsville, Maryville, Swansea, Highland, and Breese. He is on staff at 5 hospitals in Southern Illinois, and has affiliation with 9 others.
Education and Research:
Dr. Jones strongly believes in training the next generation of doctors. He is an Assistant Professor at the Saint Louis University Eye Institute, helping to train medical students and residents in the latest techniques for cataract surgery, lid surgery, and refractive surgery.
Considered an expert on laser assisted cataract surgery and Premium IOLs, Dr. Jones also travels around the country providing educational lectures to other doctors looking to learn more about these procedures. Most recently Dr. Jones was one of 8 surgeons involved with presenting live surgical techniques to surgeons around the world at the 2012 annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in San Fransisco. He also frequently hosts visiting doctors from around the country to his surgical center to see his techniques in person.
Dr. Jones also believes in continuing to push for medical advancements and is therefore involved in many FDA phase 3 clinical trials. He has recently finished trials for the next generation Premium RESTOR IOLs, new medicine for glaucoma (UPDATE: NEW MEDICINE SIMBRINZA JUST FDA APPROVED!!! THANKS FOR ALL WHO PARTICIPATED), new medicine for Dry Eye Syndrome, new patient interface for laser assisted cataract surgery (UPDATE: NEW SOFIT INTERFACE APPROVED FOR USE!), and next generation TORIC IOLs.
Current FDA Clinical Trials Dr. Jones is involved in:
- New treatment for Kerataconus and Corneal Ectasia after Lasik
- New magnifying lens implant for Macular Degeneration
- New medicine for helping Diabetics heal after cataract surgery
- New phacoemulsification device for easier and safer cataract surgery
UPDATE: Dr. Jones has just been named the Chief Medical Monitor for a device to make cataract surgery more reliable!!
Dr. Jones has taken over the reigns from Dr. Ed Doisy for the annual Mission Cataract program. For over 20 years doctors from Illinois Eye Surgeons have performed free cataract surgery for the needy. Typically done around Thanksgiving this annual event has grown, and under Dr. Jones’ lead the 2011 and 2012 programs were the largest ever.
Dr. Jones hosts his own weekly radio show 550 AM KTRS in St. Louis called Eye on Health. On the show Dr. Jones discusses all things healthcare related, from insurance to politics to medical advances.
