Mission Cataract was started by Illinois Eye Surgeon, Dr. Edward Doisy. Since the beginning of the program hundreds of uninsured patients have been helped. Over the last 22 years, the number of patients needing surgery has grown. The patients receiving surgery are selected as having the “worst of the worst” cataracts, and whose lives would be changed the most.
Over 30 Illinois Eye Surgeons’ staff, doctors, nurses, and technicians donate their time to pull off Mission Cataract. This yearly event has become a true labor of love for all of those who work so diligently to make this program a success. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.
We will soon begin to process applications for Mission Cataract 2014. We’ll be contacting our large optometry network, reminding them of the program. If you or your friends or neighbors have waited to get cataract surgery because of lack of insurance, please direct them to us.
Below are the eligibility forms to download and fill out. We look forward to another big event, to hopefully help even more people in 2014. Please contact Christine Peterson at CPeterson@illinoiseye.com or (618) 623-7660 for more information.
