Care for Life
Quantum Vision Centers are one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Midwest, with a complete system to help ensure you can see well for life. From simple eye exams to complex surgery using the very latest technology, it’s all here: ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians—all under one roof—and ready to serve you. In fact, we’ve been serving the Metro East and Southern Illinois for more than 30 years. Today, we have more than 15 locations throughout Southern Illinois.
Our practice is owned and operated by Medical Doctor Ophthalmologists. And, we’re dedicated to leading the way with the latest advancements for helping people see clearly. For example, we were the first in the area with micro incision, no stitch cataract surgery and laser vision correction. And we continue to lead the way, being the first in the St. Louis Metro Area with LenSx®, laser assisted cataract surgery, and the FS 200/Wavelight® laser for advanced bladeless Lasik.
Quantum Vision Centers represents a consortium of the largest and most respected ophthalmic and optometric practices in Southern Illinois and the Metro East. By bringing in all the top doctors, top staff, top administrators we have built a company that strives for excellence in all aspects of modern eye care.
Quantum Vision Centers began in 1985, when Dr. Terry Klingele and Dr. Homer Ferguson merged their Belleville Ophthalmic practices. This merger made the group one of the largest in Southern Illinois, and paved the way for future growth. In 1989 they opened The Eye Surgery Center in Swansea, Illinois. At the time it was the only Eye-Only surgery center in Southern Illinois. This was a revolutionary concept that has been copied many times over.
In 1999, the group expanded to offices in Breese, Centralia, and Mt. Vernon. In 2000 Quantum Vision Centers merged with Dr. Thomas Fleming and Illinois Retinal Surgeons, to bring sub-specialty retinal care to Illinois. In 2000 they also added Dr. Bart Jones, to help provide care at all new locations.
In 2005, Quantum Vision Centers merged with Green and Waltman Eye Institute in Downtown Belleville. In 2007, they added Dr. Michael Jones and expanded to Glen Carbon, Collinsville, and Highland by merging with The Friedman/Meier Eye Group.
Another large merger occurred in 2010, when Quantum Vision Centers teamed up with Dr. Ed Doisy and Dr. Wen Chen, in Maryville and Granite City. Growth continued into 2011, and they merged with Dr. Jim Hudson of Riverbend Ophthalmology in Godfrey.
In 2013, Quantum Vision Centers purchased the Staunton practice of Dr. Loren Schrenk. This would be followed most recently in January of 2014 with the acquisition of Dr. Schrenk’s South County practice.
Each merger brought unique perspective, accomplished doctors, and well trained staff. Below is a list of the “Legacy Practices” that have been merged together to form the current incarnation of Quantum Vision Centers.
